Redmi 12 4G and 5G launched in India: Top specs, key features, price in India and everything else

By Divyanshi Sharma: Redmi's latest offering in the budget smartphone segment, the Redmi 12 4G and the Redmi 12 5G launched recently and users seem quite excited about the devices. While the Redmi 12 4G had been launched globally earlier, the Redmi 12 5G has made its global debut with India. The phone brings 5G connectivity to the budget smartphone users and this has been quite well-received.

While the effective price of the Redmi 12 4G, including bank offers, starts from Rs 8,999 in India, the 5G model's effective price starts from Rs 10,999. Here are the top specifications of both the phones, price and availability details, and everything else that you need to know.

The Redmi 12 4G has two variants, one with 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage, and the other with 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant, when combined with bank offers, will cost Rs 8,999, while the 6GB RAM and 128 GB variant will be up for grabs for a net effective price of Rs 10,499.

Coming to Redmi 12 5G, which has made its world debut in India, the phone has three storage variants- 4GB + 128GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB.

The effective price of the 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant is Rs 10,999, while the effective price of the 6GB + 128GB variant is Rs 12,4999. The 8GB + 256 GB variant, when combined with Rs 1,000 bank offer, will cost Rs 14,999.

Talking about the availability, the phones will go on sale from August 4 from 12:00 pm onwards. The Redmi 12 5G will be available on the brand's official website as well as Amazon. As for the Redmi 12 4G, it will be up for grabs on the brand's official website and Flipkart.

Both phones are available in three colour options- Pastel Blue, Moonshine Silver and Jade Black.

Design: The Redmi 12 4G comes with a glass back panel which gives it a premium look and feel. On the top, you have the camera setup with silver metallic rims surrounding the camera lenses that gives it a classy appeal. It weighs around 198.5 grams.

Display: The phone sports a 6.79-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The display has a punch-hole notch design with slim bezels on three sides. The bezel on the phone's chin is slightly thicker.

Camera: The phone has a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The selfie camera is 8-megapixel.

Processor and software: Out of the box, the Redmi 12 is powered by MIUI 14 (based on Android 13) and also comes with MIUI dialler, something that Redmi fans have been excited about. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 processor.

Battery: Redmi 12 comes with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.

Display: Like the Redmi 12 4G, the phone sports a 6.79-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The display has a punch-hole notch design with slim bezels on three sides.

Camera: The phone has a 50-megapixel primary camera with a 2-megapixel depth camera and an LED flash. The front camera is 8-megapixel.

Processor and software: Out of the box, the Redmi 12 5G runs on MIUI 14 (based on Android 13) and also comes with MIUI dialler. The phone marks the debut of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor in India and promises a buttery smooth performance.

Battery: Redmi 12 comes with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W charging through a type C USB port.

The Redmi 12 4G and 5G introduce the crystal back design that is rare in this price segment. Both variants of the phone have a premium feel that makes it hard to believe that this is a budget phone. Redmi has ditched the standard camera module in both phones this time and has opted for an infinite camera deco instead, giving a clean and minimalist look.

The Redmi 12 5G is India's first Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 powered phone, promising a superior performance and experience for users. Apart from this, the phone also brings the power of 5G to the budget phone audience. It also comes with storage that is expandable up to 1 TB. Talking about the phone's camera, it is an AI-powered camera that has seven classic film filters that will appeal to smartphone photography enthusiasts.
